Job summary

Spring Branch Independent School District is seeking a Mechanic III to maintain and repair district vehicles, including buses, trucks, vans and cars. Work is performed in district transportation facilities with a focus on reliability and safety.

Responsibilities include diagnosing engine and hydraulic issues, performing preventive maintenance and operating shop equipment in a safe environment. A CDL with P&S is required for bus operations; ASE/TASBT certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must have an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
• Must be able to obtain a class A CDL Driver's license with a P & S endorsement in order to operate a school bus & district wrecker.
• ASE Automotive Certifications or TASBT school bus certifications a plus.
• Must have working knowledge of at least three (3) years in vehicle components and operation of brake, cooling, fuel, starting and charging systems, and be able to efficiently repair failures of each system.

• Test, replace and or repair starting, charging and lighting systems.
• Test, adjust, replace and or repair engine performance problems on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. Service engines, transmissions including chassis lubrication and fuel system maintenance.
• Test, adjust, repair and or replace hydraulic systems to include: brakes and lifting equipment. Test, adjust, repair and or replace air brake systems.
• Perform tire work including mounting and balancing all types and sizes.
• Insure shop equipment is clean, operational and safe.

Primary Purpose

Responsible for performing mechanical repairs on all types of district vehicles, including buses, trucks, vans and cars.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repair

• Follow shop safety guidelines and attend safety meetings.
• Keep shop equipment operational and safe.

• Participate in cross training and attend in-service training and safety meetings as required by the department.
• Drive bus routes as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Equipment Used: Shop equipment, including ladders, power tools, mops, brooms, etc.
