Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a shop mechanic in agriculture.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems.
  • Strong welding skills and knowledge of metalwork.
  • Strong welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Must have a valid GA driver's license and ability to operate a service truck.
  • Able to communicate clearly with peers and supervisors.

Job description

Southern Hills Orchard is seeking a highly technical Mechanic III to join our farm shop team. The Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and assisting in equipment upgrades.

Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems in a wide range of agricultural machinery, including tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and other farm equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and other metalwork as needed for equipment repairs.
  • Ensure scheduled maintenance is performed accurately and timely to extend the lifespan of farm equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs, including service history, parts used, and hours worked.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical issues through systematic troubleshooting.
  • Research and source replacement parts, tools, and materials to maximize cost efficiency.
  • Assist in evaluating, designing, and implementing equipment upgrades to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Keep up to date with industry standards and best practices for agricultural equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance schedules with other mechanics, maintenance staff, and farm workers.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and management to ensure equipment meets safety and regulatory standards.
  • Champion a world class safety culture by becoming familiar with all safety devices and emergency shutdown procedures including lockout-tag out procedures, as well as understanding MSDS sheets, pesticide labels and application notification procedures. Attend and actively participate in regular safety meetings and trainings.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as a shop mechanic, with a high level of technical expertise and experience in the agricultural industry.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to agricultural machinery maintenance.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of computerized diagnostic tools and software with solid troubleshooting skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid GA driver's license with a ability to operate a service truck.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, attention to detail, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work different shifts (days, nights, and weekends) and accommodate the farm schedule of 40-60 hours per week.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the role which involves, but is not limited to regularly lifting/moving up to 70lbs, bending, kneeling and twisting repetitively throughout work shift. Stepping up, stepping down and kneeling required. Occasional long term standing on hard surfaces during work shift. Repetitive wrist, hand and finger movement that encompasses squeezing, rotating and bending. Arm movement encompasses extension, raising and bending. Neck movement encompasses raising, rotating, forward, backward and side to side.
  • Able to work outside in year-round weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain.
