Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services is seeking a Mechanic II to disassemble, repair, and rebuild complex engine and compressor components in our machine shop. You will read prints, use precision instruments, and perform tests to ensure equipment meets engineering specifications.

Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, maintaining a safe work environment, troubleshooting equipment, and collaborating with teammates to stay on schedule.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Able to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications.
  • Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, and similar activity.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics.
  • Mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and a team‑first mindset, with the ability to work independently to engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex natural gas engine and compressor equipment, using manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools.
  • Clean, inspect, and repair engine and compressor components in a shop environment, reading detailed prints and precision instruments such as micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Conduct risk assessments before performing operations and material movements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in line with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure facility equipment and tooling stay operational, efficient, and safe.
  • Identify and report problems or hazardous conditions during equipment operations.
  • Complete required business training and documentation accurately.
  • Collaborate with team members, communicating clearly to keep work on schedule.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

WHO YOU ARE
  • High school diploma or GED.

PREFERRED
  • 2+ years of experience in operations or service center environments.
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment, and setting up and running test operations to engineering specifications.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and good housekeeping practices.
