Job summary

The City of Wichita is seeking a full-time heavy equipment mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment across five dedicated shops.

This second-shift role runs Monday–Friday, 11:30 AM–8:00 PM. Candidates must be proficient with diagnostic tools, read repair manuals, and hold ASE certifications with CDL eligibility. The position includes extensive hands-on work on diesel engines, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Must be highly proficient in using diagnostic scan tools and troubleshooting devices.
• Ability to read and apply information from technical repair manuals and electronic diagnostics.
• Possession of ASE certifications and CDL prerequisites as hiring criteria.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, brake, and driveline issues and verify repairs with test drives.
• Operate diagnostic tools and engines to ensure drivability after repairs.
• Maintain records of work performed and comply with safety procedures.
