Job summary

Nucor is seeking a Diesel Mechanic II in the United States to diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel-powered mobile equipment and production machinery. You will serve as a backup for stationary and mobile equipment and ensure proper lubrication, service, and timely repairs.

The role requires experience with diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and tune-ups while following OSHA safety procedures. A sign-on bonus is offered.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining or repairing diesel-powered equipment.
• Experience in industrial or outdoor environments.
• Mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
• Basic welding experience.
• 1+ year in manufacturing/industrial/diesel maintenance.

Primary Responsabilities

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

• Primary responsibilities are those of a Diesel Mechanic II, with additional responsibility to serve as the backup equipment operator for stationary and mobile equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel-powered mobile equipment, including engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, and drivetrains.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel equipment and production machinery.
• Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Wear proper PPE, as required.
• Clean and maintain production equipment and machinery.
• Ensure equipment is properly and adequately lubricated.
• Complete routine service work, including fluid and filter changes.
• Identify equipment issues and communicate needed repairs or parts.
• Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, cutting torches, and stick-welding equipment.
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, mobile shears, and material handlers.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience maintaining or repairing diesel-powered equipment.
• Experience working in an industrial or outdoor work environment.
• Mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
• Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mobile equipment.
• Basic welding experience.
• Minimum of one year of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, heavy-equipment, or diesel-maintenance environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely at all times and with a safe sense of urgency.
• Ability to operate mobile equipment in varying work conditions.
• Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Ability to meet the attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Ability to perform the physical duties associated with inspecting, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment.
