Job summary

Dougherty County Public Works in Georgia is seeking a Mechanic II to maintain and repair county vehicles and equipment. This role works under general supervision to diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs across a range of machinery used by the county.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, at least one year of gasoline/diesel mechanic or small engine repair experience, and a valid state Class B driver's license; Hazardous Materials Endorsement is preferred.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Mechanic II. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repairs on all county vehicles and equipment. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Job Responsibilities
  • Uses diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems on vehicle.
  • Services vehicles according to established routine maintenance.
  • Performs general repairs on county vehicles, including heavy equipment such as repairing brakes, replacing and repairing engines and transmissions, repairing electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Maintains service logs and records.
  • Performs general maintenance on small engines.
  • Keeps work area clean and tidy.
  • Must possess own tools.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in gasoline/diesel mechanic or small engine repair or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
Special Certifications And Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Class B, driver’s license.
  • Hazardous Material Endorsement (HME) desired
