Job Summary

The Mechanic 1 is responsible for keeping all vehicles in the fleet roadworthy and ready for service when needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Performs all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet vehicles.
• Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports.
• Checks each truck each morning.
• Compiles the work schedule in the truck shop and completes maintenance records documentation.
• May be required to answer roadside calls for disabled vehicles.
• Familiarity with and adherence to all safety rules and regulations; attends safety meetings regularly.
• Maintains a clean environment.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in vehicle maintenance.
• Experience in servicing and diagnosing brakes, diesel trucks (tractor/trailers), and power-train mechanics.
• Basic use of hand-tools required.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Class A CDL and/or Medical Card a plus.
• Vocational training preferred.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivated; proactive.
• Good math and computer skills.
• Knowledge of diesel/gasoline powered engines and power-train mechanics.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently sit for extended periods.
• Occasionally walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
• Regularly reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Work will occur in a rendering facility with wet/slippery floors and high/low temperatures.
