Job Summary

The Mechanic 1 is responsible for keeping all vehicles in the fleet roadworthy and ready for service when needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

1. Perform preventive maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles.
2. Review driver vehicle inspection reports.
3. Check each truck each morning.
4. Compile work schedules and complete maintenance records.
5. Maintain a clean environment.
6. Respond to roadside calls for disabled vehicles if required.
7. Observe all safety rules and attend safety meetings.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in vehicle maintenance.
• Ability to service and diagnose brakes and diesel trucks.
• Basic use of hand-tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
• Class A CDL and/or Medical Card (a plus).
• Vocational training (preferred).
• Detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated with good math and computer skills.
• Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines and power-train mechanics.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Sit for extended periods.
• Walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch as needed.
• Reach with hands and arms regularly.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a rendering facility with potential exposure to wet, slippery floors, and high or cold temperatures.
