Shelby County Schools is looking for a Mechanic I – Certified to oversee the maintenance and repair of District vehicles. This role includes diagnosing malfunctions, performing repairs, and ensuring vehicles operate safely. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, ASE Certification in Auto Maintenance and Light Repair, and four years of relevant experience.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The position of Mechanic I – Certified works under the direction of the Distribution Area Supervisor and the General Services Supervisor to perform skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of District vehicles. The position is responsible for diagnosing malfunctions, maintaining, and repairing vehicles to ensure safe operating condition, maintaining tools and equipment, and performing related work as assigned. The position works under general supervisions according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.

High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of relevant experience in Auto Mechanics; requires an ASE Certification in G1 – Auto Maintenance and Light Repair. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree = 6 years plus required years of experience.
