Job summary

Global- a 1st Flagship Company in Philadelphia is seeking a Mechanic I to join our shipboard maintenance team. You will work with mechanical systems on Navy vessels and contribute to repair projects at our Philadelphia site.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of shipboard machinist experience, with a valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25%. We offer comprehensive benefits, a safety-conscious culture, and opportunities for career growth

Responsibilities

• Operate machines and hand tools to repair equipment efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Locate sources of defective operation or breakdowns and correct them.
• Read blueprints and specifications to disassemble and repair tools and equipment.
• Instruct Machinist/Mechanic Helper when assigned.
• Follow environmental protection SOPs and safety protocols.
• Be prepared to travel up to 25% for company business.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Must be skillful in the operation of machines and hand tools necessary to perform repairs in an efficient and economical manner.
• Shall be knowledgeable in machine and mechanical principles and be able to locate sources of defective operation or cause of breakdown.
• Shall be able to use all hand tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
• Must have a good knowledge of blueprints and manufacturers' specifications, to be able to disassemble and repair tools and equipment.
• Shall be able to instruct Machinist/Mechanic Helper when assigned.
• Must qualify to wear a respirator.
• May be required to travel up to 25% to conduct company business.
• Must know all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.
• Assist in the receipt, moor and departure of vessels.
• Adhere to all corporate core values, policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.
• Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
• Must be available to work overtime if required.
• May be exposed to sharp edges, fall hazards, hazardous chemicals and conditions, poor illumination and inclement weather.
• Shall handle weights to 100 pounds with an average of 50 pounds and carry up to a distance of 200 feet.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Five (5) years of relevant shipboard machinist mechanic experience or equivalent military experience.
• Valid driver's license and qualification to operate government/company vehicles per the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual.

Preferred:

• Four (4) years of experience serving in a Navy Engineering rating or Armed Forces Diesel Engine Repair Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
