Description

Position Location: Norfolk, VA

Summary

Performs routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers.
  • Perform disconnects and connections of mechanical joints.
  • Removes and installs various equipment using sound engineering practices.
  • Performing duties as Firewatch.
  • Assists with cleaning up work area.
  • Employees may be required to travel for work to other locations.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Computer Skills

Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.

Education/Experience
  • Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.
  • Must have 1-5 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment (i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants).
Certificates and Licenses

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.

Wage Range

$18.00 - $37.00 hourly. In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to, educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, market factors; and geographic location.
