Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of university-owned vehicles and equipment, including gas, diesel, and electric-powered units. The role includes providing roadside assistance, supporting safe and efficient operation of campus transportation assets, and assisting with equipment upkeep across multiple departments. This is an essential personnel position, which may require participation in storm response, emergency situations, and on-call duties.

  • Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on a range of campus vehicles and equipment, including gas, diesel, and electric-powered units such as cars, trucks, golf carts, tractors, mowers, and trailers.
  • Service and repair small engine equipment, including trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and similar tools used for ground and facilities work. Use diagnostic tools, including computer-based systems, to identify issues and complete necessary repairs or adjustments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Install and remove golf cart batteries and service tires using tire mounting and balancing equipment.
  • Provide on-campus roadside assistance as needed and participate in storm duty and emergency response efforts as essential personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of vehicles and shop equipment and assist senior mechanic as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsHighschool diploma or general education degree (GED); three (3) to six (6) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Commercial Class D Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements and the ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, traffic rules and regulations, and maintenance of motor vehicles.
  • Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skill in decision making by considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and choosing the most appropriate one.
  • Skill in installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Skill in determining the kind of and use of standard tools and equipment needed to do a job.
