Position
The Dublin San Ramon Services District is recruiting to fill one regular, full-time Mechanic I position in the Mechanical Maintenance division of the Operations Department.
The ideal candidate will have one or more years of recent mechanical experience, preferably in a water or wastewater treatment facility or other utility or manufacturing industry. They will have industrial experience maintaining, rebuilding and/or repairing pumps, pump stations, compressors, hydraulic and mechanical operating equipment, pipeline and air release valve maintenance and HVAC maintenance skills with light to medium fabrication skills to support the operation of equipment and apparatuses. The successful candidate will also have the ability to weld, groove, glue and thread piping systems; as well as have knowledge of small and medium gas and diesel engine maintenance and repair.
Under direct or general supervision learns and performs a variety of routine to complex duties in support of the Operations Department including semiskilled and skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the District’s water and wastewater pump, treatment, pressure, flow regulating, and related equipment including sand filtration, micro-filtration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet systems; performs minor and major mechanical repairs to gasoline and/or diesel powered automotive, heavy construction, and other combustion equipment; and performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Mechanic I
Receives direct supervision from the assigned supervisor. Receives technical and functional direction and training from the Senior Mechanic. Exercises no supervision over staff.

Training and Experience
The minimum qualifications described on class specifications represent the typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job. Any combination of education, licensing, and/or experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job satisfactorily may qualify the candidates to be considered for open positions in the class specification.
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Mechanic I
One (1) year of increasingly responsible work experience involving the repair and maintenance of gas and diesel powered equipment or vehicles, industrial equipment, or pumps.
Other Recruitment Standards
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a Class C driver's license required by the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles, to
perform the duties of the position. Continued maintenance of said driver's license in compliance with established District vehicle operation standards, and the ability to be insured for the operation of a vehicle/District vehicle in accordance with the terms and conditions of the District's insurance program are conditions of continuing employment. The CSRMA driving standards are included herein by reference.
If assigned to Fleet and Facilities Maintenance, possession and maintenance of the Class A driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements required by the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles, within one (1) year of appointment.
Mechanic I
When assigned to Facility, Plant and Field Maintenance: Possession and maintenance of California Water Environment Association Mechanical Technologist Grade I certification is required within two (2) years of appointment.
Possession of a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care Provider certificate and First Aid certificate is required within one (1) year of employment.
Additional Requirements
Incumbents in this class are required to participate in the District's Shave-on-Demand policy when required to wear respiratory protection or other safety equipment.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Dublin San Ramon Services District employees are, by State and Federal law, Disaster Service Workers. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Labor Code. In the event of a declaration of emergency, any employee of the District may be assigned to perform activities which promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. Such assignments may require service at locations, times, and under conditions that are significantly different than the normal work assignments and may continue into the recovery phase of the emergency. If a “Local Emergency” is declared during the employee’s shift, employees will be expected to remain at work to respond to the emergency needs of the community. If a “Local Emergency” is declared outside of the employee’s shift, employees must make every effort to contact their direct supervisor or department head to obtain reporting instructions as Disaster Service Workers.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The selection process may consist of an evaluation of the applicant's qualifications, appraisal board interview, written examination, practical exercise and/or internal department interviews, reference check and a review of prior performance evaluations. Upon completion of the selection process, an offer of employment may be conditionally based upon the successful completion of an employment and education verification, criminal background check and a pre-employment medical exam.

A practical exercise is tentatively scheduled on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
An appraisal board interview is tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
