Job summary

The City of Alabaster is looking for a skilled Maintenance Mechanic I to join the Public Works team.

The role involves preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on City-owned vehicles and machinery to keep essential services running safely.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment repair preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and welding systems preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems on City equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on engines, motors, generators, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems efficiently and accurately.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble electric motors and components.
  • Re-wire electrical panels and replace defective parts as needed.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks associated with equipment repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including cars, tractors, mower, heavy construction equipment, and other City-owned machinery.
  • Order and maintain inventory of necessary parts, materials, and tools.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensure equipment is operating safely and in compliance with applicable standards.

Maintenance Mechanic I

Public Works Division

Salary: $22.53 - $31.18 per hour Grade: 16

Position Summary

The City of Alabaster is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our Public Works team. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on a wide variety of City-owned vehicles, equipment, and machinery. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to keeping essential public service equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Essential Job Duties
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems on City equipment and vehicles
  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on engines, motors, generators, and related equipment
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems efficiently and accurately
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble electric motors and components
  • Re-wire electrical panels and replace defective parts as needed
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks associated with equipment repairs

    • Cars and trucks

Essential Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent:
