Job summary

Action Environmental is seeking a skilled Mechanic to service and repair equipment across Birmingham, Hanceville, Sylacauga, and Decatur, plus customer sites in the Birmingham metro area. You will work independently or in teams, using your own hand tools to diagnose engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems while following safety guidelines.

This position requires physical stamina, travel between sites, and a strong commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• Pre-employment background check, drug test and physical required.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to commute.
• Reliable phone to respond quickly when on call.
• Minimum of 1 year of mechanical repairs or equivalent technical experience.
• Experience with PCs and basic typing skills.
• Experience with TMT system is a plus (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Plans and performs repairs using correct tools, procedures, and diagnostic measures.
• Orders and returns parts and logs entries in maintenance software.
• Disassembles and reassembles engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components.
• Performs preventive maintenance per factory guidelines.
• Operates service information systems and follows safety standards.
• Adheres to safety and DOT and corporate guidelines.
• Works independently in the field when required.
• Identifies root causes and performs repairs accordingly.
• Interacts with Operations to clarify the nature of the issue.
• Maintains a clean, organized workspace.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Mechanics are responsible for performing jobs involving the service and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. This position will service multiple locations in Alabama –Birmingham, Hanceville, Sylacauga,Decaturand various customer locations throughout the Birmingham Metro area. Mechanics must have their own hand tools. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair include earth moving equipment, diesel engines,small engines, and pickup trucks. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to maintain safety requirements. The Mechanic will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner.

What You’ll Do

• Plans and performs repairs using correct tools, procedures, and diagnostic measures.
• Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely mannermaintaining accurate entries into our maintenance software and tracking systems.
• Performs the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
• Performs Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
• Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
• Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
• Works independently in the field as required
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Interacts with Operations Personnelto properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT)
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Additional duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel when required
• Ability to work in industrial environments with varying conditions (heat, cold, noise, etc.) including atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive
• Ability to engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects up to 75lbs
• Ability to operate light and heavy equipment, handles various hand tools and powered industrial tools, works with vibration-producing tools
• Ability to work in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance
• Ability to work at elevations including working from ladders and scaffolding
• Ability to be on call for emergency response on rotating basis every other week

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a Service Department shop. Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position. Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
