Job summary

ChampionX in Odessa, TX is seeking a Mechanic Helper to support shop personnel with washing, tear down, cleaning, disassembly and reassembly of units, light welding, and painting. This entry-level role starts with on-site work in a fast-paced field service environment.

You will follow safety policies, assist with testing prep, and contribute to continuous improvement. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, up to one year in a technical field, welding experience, good communication,

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Other duties as required.

The Mechanic Helper is responsible for assisting other shop employees with washing, tear down, cleaning, disassemble and reassemble units, minor welding, painting units.

What You Will Do:

• Wash incoming units from the field to prep for inspection.
• Tear down and internally clean vessels.
• Tear down units, disassemble pumps for inspection.
• Minor welds on bracing for piping, etc.
• Paint units.
• Reassemble units, prep for test.
• Knows and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
• Contributes to the departments continuous improvement culture.
• Others duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Up to one year of experience in an appropriate technical field.
• Welding experience.
• Good oral and written communication skills - Expresses thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, using good grammar.
• Listens to understand input, feedback and concerns.
• Provides complete information in an open, honest and straightforward manner.
• Responds promptly and positively to questions and requests.
• Good math skills – Ability to develop and apply mathematical thinking in order to solve a range of problems in everyday situations.

The employee regularly lifts and carries 20 lbs regularly, and 50 lbs occasionally. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee must be able to regularly bend, stoop, crawl, lay down, twist and push. Employee is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including but not limited to shoes/boots, hard hats, or respirators. Work is primarily executed on the production floor, with varying temperatures and high levels of noise; personal safety equipment such as glasses and protective shoes may be required. Exposure to shop elements, such as, dust, petroleum-based products, and other chemicals. Work may require visits to customer field locations in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. May include working nights, weekends, and/or extended hours as the business need arises.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associates or technical degree from an accredited program in a related field. Oil and gas industry experience. Good mechanical skills – Perform mechanical field maintenance work to ensure optimal availability and reliability of artificial lift equipment. Reliable and dependability – Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan. Team Work/Relationships – Works with others willingly and in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork. Demonstrates a commitment to the entire organization and is supportive of all initiatives to help grow the team.
