Job summary

Historic Tours of America in Nashville is seeking a Mechanic Helper to help maintain our buses and equipment, ensuring safe, clean, and presentable assets across our operations.

You will perform routine maintenance, assist mechanics with repairs, follow fueling and parking procedures, report safety hazards, and work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. A high school diploma and own hand tools are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work independently within established rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle on company property safely.
  • Ability to determine the type of tool and equipment needed to complete a job.
  • Ability to monitor gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure proper operation.
  • Ability to understand manufacturers specifications, service, and repair manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventative maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs.
  • Follow procedures to fuel and park CDL‑required vehicles; drive on company property only.
  • Repair and/or install tires.
  • Report discrepancies and safety hazards on all vehicles and properties.
  • Work a flexible schedule – Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays.

Essential Functions
  • Perform routine, preventative maintenance such as changing oil, check batteries and lubricate equipment and machinery.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs
  • Follow procedures to fuel and park CDL required vehicles. Driver, fuel, and park on company property only.
  • Repair and/or install tires.
  • Report discrepancies and safety hazards on all vehicles and properties on the appropriate forms.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule – Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to work independently over long periods of time within the scope of established rules and regulations.
  • Ability to drive on company property only a vehicle that is 27 feet to 33 feet in length in a safe, competent manner.
  • Ability to determine the type of tool and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Ability to use equipment or materials as specified in this job description.
  • Ability to understand manufactures specifications, service, and repair manual.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivaled preferred
  • Mechanical background helpful
Other Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment backkground check and substance abuse testing.
  • Valid TN Driver’s License with acceptable driving record for the past three years preferred
  • Must supply own hand tools and toolboxes.
