Job summary

Galveston County Road & Bridge is seeking an on-site Maintenance Assistant to aid in equipment maintenance, manage inventories, and support with parts and supplies. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least three months of automotive maintenance experience, plus a valid Texas driver’s license and a Texas vehicle inspection license within six months.

FEMA certifications 100, 200, 700 and 800 are required within six months.

The purpose of this class is to assist in completing maintenance and repairs of equipment as they are assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

The work is typically performed in a service center occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
