Job summary

The Town of Yarmouth is seeking a Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Operator to join the Highway team. Qualifications

  • Three years of maintenance and repair experience with municipal equipment or equivalent.
  • Class A Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
  • Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer's License with endorsements 2A, 3A, and 1D.

Responsibilities

  • Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on small and heavy equipment.
  • Maintaining records and interpreting OSHA regulations.
  • Operating trucks and snow removal equipment.

Job description

Join to apply for the Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Operator role at Town of Yarmouth.

The Town of Yarmouth has an opportunity for a qualified individual to fill a Mechanic Heavy Equipment Operator position working with the Highway team. Under the supervision of the Highway Supervisor, the role involves skilled maintenance and repair of small equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment, along with shop maintenance, and driving light and heavy trucks.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, performing preventative maintenance in compliance with regulations, greasing, oiling, tire and battery changes, body work, brake and engine repairs, hydraulic work, electrical checks, lubrication, oil changes, and operating trucks and snow removal equipment. The role requires interpreting OSHA regulations and performing related work as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Training in mechanic and automotive repair at the journeyman level
  • Three years of maintenance and repair experience with municipal equipment or equivalent
  • Class A Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement
  • Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer's License with endorsements 2A, 3A, and 1D

Skills required include knowledge of repair methods for various equipment, welding, operation of all listed equipment, and proficiency with hand tools. Physical requirements involve frequent moderate to strenuous effort, lifting up to 50 pounds, and normal eyesight and hearing capabilities.
