Job summary

USG, a Chicago-based leader since 1902 in building materials and systems, seeks a Mechanic for our General/Mobile Shop in Mediapolis, IA. The successful candidate will perform maintenance on heavy equipment, including forklifts and related machinery, while following safety policies and working with a team to meet production goals.

Responsibilities include using diverse tools, engaging with the plant work order system, and contributing to safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Able to pull and reinstall motors from forklifts and similar equipment.
• Strong diagnostic skills on mobile equipment.
• Experience servicing heavy equipment such as fork trucks, loaders, dozers, backhoes, dump trucks, and lifts.
• Willingness to work the assigned schedule.
• Consistently follow plant and departmental safety rules, standards and programs.
• Meet the essential physical requirements of the position, including negotiating steps and ladders.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Able to understand verbal and written instructions from supervision and perform tasks efficiently.
• Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as specified in the operator rate program.

Job Title: Mechanic - General/Mobile Shop

Role & Responsibilities:

• Compliance with all safety and housekeeping rules.
• Become familiar with plant work order system.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools, cranes/hoist, rigging equipment, welders, fall restraint, etc.
• Work as part of a team, communicating and cooperating to achieve the required results.
• Expected to take an active role in all plant safety and continuous improvement initiatives as required by supervision.
• Adaptable to scheduling requirements including shiftwork, assignment of overtime, working weekends, etc. where applicable.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Comfortable pulling a motor from a fork truck and reinstalling it.
• Strong diagnostic skills on mobile equipment.
• Experience in performing service work on heavy equipment up to but not limited to fork trucks, loaders, dozers, backhoes, dump trucks, and lifts of any configuration.
• Willingness to work the assigned schedule.
• Consistently demonstrate an understanding of all plant & departmental safety rules, standards, and programs.
• Meet the essential physical requirements of the position. Negotiate steps and ladders.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Have ability to understand verbal and written instructions from plant supervision and efficiently and effectively perform assigned tasks.
• Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as specified in the operator rate program.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
