Kinross Gold, a Canadian-based global senior gold mining company with operations and projects in the United States, Brazil, Mauritania, Chile and Canada, is hiring a Mechanic Fuel at Fort Knox, about 26 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska, one of the few cold-weather heap leach facilities in the world, which has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operating. Working under the Truck Shop Supervisor in both the maintenance shop and the field, the mechanic fuels, lubricates and performs minor maintenance on haul trucks, loaders, graders, dozers, backhoes, blast-hole drills, compactors and support vehicles: walk-around inspections, checking fluid levels and lube systems, reporting leaks, taking fluid samples, inspecting components for the preventive maintenance program, operating all mobile equipment for servicing and training new mechanics as needed. A high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of fueling, lubricating and minor maintenance on mining or heavy construction equipment are preferred; candidates need an understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fundamentals and heavy and light mobile equipment operation, a valid state driver’s license, US work authorization and availability for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends. Progression through the wage scale depends on completing the role’s checklists.
