Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation operates Fort Knox in Alaska, a major heavy mining site. A skilled Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains diesel equipment, welds, performs diagnostics, and supports shovels, loaders, graders, dozers, and haul trucks.

Requires strong mechanical/diagnostic knowledge and ability to work in cold weather. Role includes troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, tool use, and teamwork with the Maintenance Supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred with vocational/technical training or mining/heavy equipment maintenance experience.
• Ability to read/write instructions, perform basic math, and keep records.
• Working knowledge of manuals and diagnostic tools.
• Understanding of A/C and hydraulic troubleshooting/repair, plus VIMS/SIS/ET systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, fuel, and cooling systems and how to troubleshoot/repair them.
• Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Must have own hand tools up to ¾” drive.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter with ability to work in a team.
• Able to meet physical demands per safety sheets.
• Available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Gather technical information to perform the job and troubleshoot, diagnose, modify, fabricate, and repair electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose problems and verify repairs; ensure proper waste disposal.
• Prepare work orders, change parts, and arrange parts from the warehouse; complete paperwork for accounting and shift handover.
• Conduct preventative maintenance checks and inspections; report findings to supervisor and take action.
• Train other employees as needed on maintenance procedures.
• Maintain and repair components; reposts leaks, performs lubrication, samples fluids, inspects parts.
• Weld as needed to repair components.
• Maintain punctuality and regular attendance; meet performance standards.
• Adhere to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies; follow procedures.
• Work safely, identify hazards, and collaborate with management to correct them.
• Perform other duties as required.
