Job summary

Polk County seeks a skilled technician for journey level maintenance and repair of automotive and road maintenance vehicles. You will fabricate metal parts for shop projects and may back-up bridge welding as needed.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and four years of journey level experience, plus tools and certifications. A valid Oregon drivers license is required, with CDL possible within six months.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or successful completion of the equivalent GED. Four years of journey level experience in the repair, modification, and maintenance of light and heavy equipment and vehicles; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training.


Required Special Qualifications


  • Possession of a valid Oregon\u2019s driver's license upon appointment.

  • Must be able to obtain an Oregon CDL within 6 months of employment.

  • Must possess own hand tools suitable for work performed. Contact Human Resources at hr@polkcountyor.gov for a list of required tools.

  • Must possess and maintain current AWS Welding D1.5 certification within 6 months of hire.

Paid Leave


  • Vacation: New full-\u2011time employees generally earn 12 vacation days per year; this increases with years of service. Part-\u2011time employees earn a pro-\u2011rated amount.

  • Holidays: A generous number of paid holidays annually. This will vary according to bargaining unit.

  • Personal Leave Days: These are floating holidays. The number of Personal Leave Days varies according to bargaining unit.

  • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (pro-\u2011rated for part time) with no maximum accrual.

  • Other Leaves: Jury duty, bereavement, military.
