Job summary

Evans Construction is seeking a skilled equipment mechanic to repair and maintain our heavy machinery, trucks, and paving equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe operation across site assets.

The role requires reading safety and maintenance manuals, using hand tools, and maintaining accurate records of repairs and parts orders. A valid driver’s license and the ability to work well in a team are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with related experience.
  • 1–2 years of related experience in maintenance or repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment; performs durable, economical fixes.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment and vehicles across the facility.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and service on trucks and machines.
  • Orders parts, maintains invoices, and uses a computer for job tasks.
  • Welds broken parts and performs minor structural repairs as needed.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area and follows safety procedures.

Position Overview

Repairs and maintains construction equipment and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, batch plants, paving machines, bulldozers, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other equipment by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Troubleshoots problems, making economical and durable repairs.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis.
  • Services vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
  • Orders parts and supplies. Maintains purchase orders and invoices. Operates computer for job functions.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to two years of related experience.
Work Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
