Position Summary

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment, trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, supporting fleet reliability, and maintaining compliance with company safety standards and DOT regulations.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and hands‑on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and preventive maintenance programs. This position requires attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to workplace safety. They should bring their own tools and electrical knowledge

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring a high level of accountability and awareness. The employee is responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues
  • Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and fuel systems
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment meets DOT and company safety standards
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and timely
  • Perform emergency repairs and roadside service calls when necessary
  • Operate diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment safely and effectively
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Communicate equipment issues and repair timelines with supervisors and operations teams
  • Assist with inventory control and parts management as needed
  • Follow all company policies, environmental regulations, and safety procedures
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical school certification or diesel mechanic training preferred
  • 2+ years of diesel maintenance or heavy equipment repair experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance practices
  • Experience working with Class A or B commercial vehicles preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documents
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods
  • Ability to work around loud equipment, grease, oils, and moving machinery
  • Must be able to safely operate tools and equipment required for repairs and maintenance

This position operates in both shop and field environments and may require occasional overtime, weekend work, or emergency call-outs depending on operational needs.
