Aircraft Maintenance Technician - Avionics
Description
Job Title: Aircraft Maintenance Technician - Avionics
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Lead Mechanic
Status: Non-Exempt
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Proper completion of all paperwork related to the assigned task
- Providing information to the Lead Mechanic for shift turnovers, and entering information on the shift turnover form in the absence of the Lead Mechanic
- Notify Inspection when a task requires, or becomes an RII action
- Segregate and identify upon removal, all repair station/customer components
- Possess and maintain an adequate number and quality of tools necessary to perform assigned tasks
- Ensure all tools are accounted for and/or returned to the tool room at shift’s end
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with job cards, engineering orders, maintenance manuals, and other approved documents
- Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems
- Coordinate work with engineers, technicians, and other aircraft maintenance personnel
- Interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems
- Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft using hand tools, power tools, or soldering irons
- Adjust or replace malfunctioning components or assemblies
- Connect components to assemblies such as radio systems, instruments, magnetos, inverters, and in-flight refueling systems
- Assemble components such as switches, electrical controls, and junction boxes
- Fabricate parts and test aids as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Skills And Abilities:
- Physical ability to balance, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, crouch, carry items up to 50 pounds, grasp, kneel, pull, push, reach, use repetitive motion, sit, stand, walk, see, distinguish color, read information on screens or diagrams, hear equipment noises, and understand directions
- Mental capacity to understand, remember, and apply complex instructions, organize thoughts, make decisions, and monitor impacts
- Excellent communication skills in English, with ability to read, write, speak, and understand complex instructions and documents
- Mechanical and analytical aptitude, attention to detail, safety consciousness, and ability to work productively in a diverse environment
Working Conditions:
- Combination of inside and outside work with changing climates
- Moderate to high noise levels
- Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials
- Work in confined spaces and at heights
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education in aircraft avionics through A&P or similar certified programs
- Experience at apprenticeship level or higher, OSHA and Hazardous Waste training preferred
- Ability to use wire strippers, crimp tools, voltmeters, and test equipment
- Ability to read/interpret schematics and troubleshoot aircraft systems
- Knowledge of AMMs, IPCs, SWPs, and WDMs
