Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanic in daily duties and preventive maintenance.
• Clean equipment, machines and parts using solvents, cloths and tools.
• Mount/demount tires and inspect/repair tires.
• Remove parts for repair using hand tools, hoists, or crane.
• Install or replace equipment parts and assist in equipment moves.
• Lubricate components and apply adhesives as needed.
• Track time and parts using work orders and maintenance systems.
• Maintain safe, clean work areas and follow safety rules.
• Under supervision, inspect damaged parts and reassemble machines after work.
• Start equipment and observe operation to detect issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Position mounts/demounts tires, examine and repair tires, basic troubleshooting, lubricate machinery, change parts, or perform other routine preventative maintenance. Housekeeping of shop and surrounding areas

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist mechanic in daily duties


• Assist with preventive maintenance


• Clean equipment/machines and parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.


• Mount/demount tires, examine and repair tires.


• Remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists


• Assist in install, replace, or change of equipment parts and attachments properly


• Assist mechanic to repair or move equipment


• Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to equipment, machine parts, or other equipment


• Participate in action planning process


• Track/record time and all repair parts using work orders & maintenance management system


• All other duties assigned by supervisor


• Keep work and surrounding area safe, clean, and free of debris


• Under supervision, inspect or test damaged parts, and mark defective areas or advise mechanic of repair needs


• Under supervision, reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work


• Under supervision, start equipment and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems


• Under supervision, install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess adequate fitness and stamina in order to conduct strenuous and physically demanding tasks.


• Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by department lead and supervisors


• Able to clearly explain problems or give instructions to others involved in keeping operations running smoothly.


• Able to perform the job with limited supervision

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, or standing for long periods of time.


• Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.


• Must be comfortable working around loud equipment


• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.


• Able to work while in a harness at heights over 4 feet if needed.


• Able to lift 50 lbs throughout work shift

SAFETY

• Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations.


• Wear all required personal protective equipment, i.e., hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and reflective wear.


• Do not enter restricted areas.


• Report immediately to your supervisor or any available supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly to eliminate unsafe conditions


• Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge.


• Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating.


• Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers.


• Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling, and lifting with your legs and not your back.


• Never approach a saw while it is still running.


• Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company.
