Job Description and Position Requirements:

Penn State Harrisburg is seeking a full-time Mechanic A, Carpentry, Electrical, and Plumbing to join their team. Responsibilities include:

1. Perform daily inspections of assigned campus areas for unusual or emergency conditions; report maintenance needs to supervisor.
2. Dismantle units, localize issues, determine repair extent, and repair or replace defective wiring parts.
3. Perform interior and exterior carpentry work such as partitions, cabinets, paneling, doors, furniture, and trim.
4. Fabricate and install bookshelves, benches, laboratory equipment, etc., including custom wood items.
5. Repair or rebuild residence hall furniture like desks, dressers, closets, and cabinets.
6. Repair residence hall, classroom, laboratory, and office doors; install and repair door hardware, locks, hinges, and glass.
7. Operate power tools like saws, drills, sanders, etc.
8. Repair roof structures, including sealing, replacing rafters, and laying shingles.
9. Construct small structures using various materials and install ceiling tiles and floor tiles.
10. Paint, stain, varnish, and install electrical and lighting systems; maintain electrical equipment.
11. Perform plumbing repairs and installations.
12. Fabricate, repair, and install metal structures; weld and braze as needed.
13. Perform masonry work such as walkways, walls, and tile work.
14. Interpret drawings and blueprints; estimate materials and labor; plan work sequences.
15. Maintain shop equipment and tools; perform tear-downs and repairs.
16. Supervise and direct other employees when assigned.
17. Operate university vehicles and equipment; perform snow removal and other maintenance tasks.
18. Inspect, repair, and maintain fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and emergency lighting.
19. Respond to emergency calls and perform necessary repairs.

Job Requirements: Advanced shop mathematics, ability to read complex drawings and specifications, and proficiency with measuring instruments. Equivalent to a recognized trade apprenticeship or high school plus 2-year technical college. 2-3 years of effective experience required.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
