Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a maintenance technician to oversee the upkeep of heavy industrial equipment at our North Haven, CT facilities. The role focuses on diagnosing failures, repairing components, and performing preventive maintenance to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Work involves lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and operating in a heavy industrial environment with compliance to OEM and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• 3 years minimum mechanical repair experience in a heavy industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
• Diagnoses equipment failures and provides recommendations for proper repair actions.
• Dismantles devices to remove and replace defective parts, installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines.
• Ensures that all equipment complies with OEMs and Regulatory Agencies operating standards and lubrication schedules.
• Administers Preventive Maintenance program from computer system.

• Ensures that all equipment complies with OEMs and Regulatory Agencies operating standards, and ensures proper equipment lubrication in compliance with OEMs lubrication schedule
• Administers Preventive Maintenance program from computer system, follows Preventive Maintenance Work Order procedures

Job Qualifications

• Technical school preferred.
• 3 years minimum mechanical repair related experience in a heavy industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
