Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a skilled Mechanic A to repair and maintain heavy industrial machinery at our North Haven, CT facility. You will inspect equipment, diagnose issues, dismantle and replace parts, adjust controls, and ensure compliance with OEM and regulatory standards.

The role requires at least 3 years of mechanical repair experience in a heavy industrial setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a technical school preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble
• Diagnoses equipment failures and provide recommendations for proper repair course of action
• Dismantles devices to remove and replace defective parts, Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
• Initiates purchase order for parts and machines
• Ensure that all equipment complies with OEMs and Regulatory Agencies operating standards, Ensures proper equipment lubrication in compliance with OEMs lubrication schedule
• Administers Preventive Maintenance program from computer system, Follows Preventive Maintenance Work Order procedures

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the duties outlined below.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
