Job summary

Quality Repair Solutions (QRS®) in Memphis, TN is seeking an energetic Mechanic to diagnose and repair semi-truck tractors and trailers, perform preventative maintenance, and follow DOT regulations.

You will work from a service truck, use welding equipment, order parts, and document maintenance in our system; the role includes safety, ongoing training, and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience with diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • 1+ year of experience with tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and company policies.
  • R-Stamp Certified for welding on equipment (2G/3G/4G).
  • 1+ year TIG welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers; perform annual/90-day inspections as required.
  • Operate a yard hostler to move trailers within the yard and shop.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Follow safety and environmental policies; handle hazardous waste properly.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and use welding equipment as required.

Job Summary:

Responsible for diagnosing, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors, including tasks like brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, basic structural repairs, and more, all while working out of a service truck and adhering to strict safety regulations; general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Uses technical publications or automated systems in maintaining vehicles to prescribed manufacturers’ maintenance schedules and for researching parts. Properly annotates all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers. Perform annual/systematic 90 day inspections (trailers) on equipment as required. Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety

Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, and electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • R-Stamp Certified (Able to weld 2G, 3G, 4G and other welding needs on equipment)
  • Must have 1 plus years of TIG
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent vocational school required
  • At least 1 year related experience required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, Hours depend on location.

  • Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to fit into a 20” cargo trailer dome opening.
  • Able to meet safety standards for fall protection harness – max weight 310 lbs. (includes all PPE worn)
