Job summary

Smith- in Maryville, TN is seeking a Facility Maintenance technician focused on fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance. The role involves servicing and repairing fleet vehicles, minor forklift work, and supporting landscaping and winter operations.

You will perform preventative maintenance per manufacturer guidelines, assist tradespeople as needed, and adapt to emergencies requiring overtime. A background in automotive maintenance is valued.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Prior experience with vehicle and/or equipment maintenance is required.
• Vocational automotive training is preferred.

This position will work in all aspects of Facility Maintenance, with a primary focus on fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Shift:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Service and maintain fleet vehicles
• Minor Fork truck and other PIV repairs
• Repair and service all landscaping equipment
• Small engine repairs
• Complete preventative maintenance per manufacturer's recommendations on all equipment
• Coordinate outside vendors for major equipment repairs
• Assist electricians, plumbers, welders as needed
• Assist with landscaping duties if needed
• Assist with winter events, such as salting, shoveling, or plowing
• May be required to work off shift or overtime as emergencies require

Education and Experience:

• High School/GED required
• Prior experience with vehicle and/or equipment maintenance required
• Vocational school education in Automotive preferred

Competencies and Skills:

• Understanding of both electric and internal combustion powered equipment
• Hydraulics operations
• General understanding of vehicle electrical systems
• Basic computer skills preferred

Physical Demands:

• Works in a manufacturing environment
• Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Able to stand, sit, stoop, squat and walk

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Within any of our facilities, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing and distribution operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
