General Summary

It is the responsibility of the Automotive and Heavy Equipment Technician to perform both minor and major repairs on all gasoline, diesel, electric, and natural gas-powered vehicles and equipment at all facilities owned or operated by the IAA. It is also the responsibility of this position to perform welding and cutting functions at all facilities of the IAA. Must participate in snow removal activities which may prohibit utilizing personal and/or vacation from November 1 through March 31 based on the conditions of the weather. During that time period, you may utilize personal and/or vacation if it’s not snowing and would be expected to report to work within a 2-hour period upon call. Perform any or all other tasks as required.

Essential Functions
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all gasoline, diesel, electric, and natural gas-powered equipment operated by the airport at all its facilities.
  • Perform minor and major repair work on all equipment operated by the airport at all its facilities.
  • Maintain and repair the auxiliary generators at all the airport’s facilities.
  • Operate the wrecker and service truck with crane.
  • Report unusual security situations to the Safety Departments.
  • Perform any other functions assigned.
  • Fabricate metals.
  • Participate in snow removal activities as needed.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns.
  • Contains cost by evaluating service and parts options.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organizational mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
  • Perform computer diagnostic and repair.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic control circuits.
  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot from wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to weld and fabricate metal.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems and read hydraulic schematics.
  • EPA certification for dispensing refrigerants.
  • Troubleshoot and repair air-conditioning systems.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or successful completion of a high school equivalency exam; or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • At least 5 years’ working experience as an automotive technician.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using computers, scanners, and electrical meters.
  • Must have diesel engine and heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Ability to perform all the physical and cognitive tasks outlined in the job description.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate all motor vehicles and equipment owned by the airport.
  • Operate small equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Operate a computer keyboard.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Obtain and/or maintain Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with air brakes and public passenger endorsement) required by end of probationary period.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
