Job summary

Sulzer in La Porte is seeking Assembly Mechanics to disassemble, inspect, and rebuild rotating equipment including steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and gear boxes, following Sulzer's guidelines and safety protocols.

You will use micrometers, dial indicators, and bore gauges to measure parts, operate overhead cranes and torches, and document inspection findings. Overtime may be required; Sulzer offers a comprehensive benefits package and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 3 years of hands-on turbomachinery repair experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude in turbines, compressors, and rotating equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime and use precision measuring instruments.

• Safely and efficiently disassemble, thoroughly inspect, and precisely build rotating equipment according to Sulzer’s guidelines and safety protocols.
• Conduct thorough visual inspections of disassembled components, identifying wear, damage, or abnormalities that may affect equipment performance.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments to take accurate measurements and assess dimensional integrity of parts.
• Operate overhead cranes, torches, grinders, and forklifts when required.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings and measurements.
• Execute unit assembly of repaired or replaced components, following technical specifications and quality standards.

We are looking for Assembly Mechanics to join our Core team in La Porte.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently disassemble, thoroughly inspect, and precisely build rotating equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, hot gas expanders, gear boxes and other machinery according to Sulzer’s established guidelines and safety protocols.


• Conduct thorough visual inspections of disassembled components, identifying wear, damage, or abnormalities that may affect equipment performance.


• Utilize precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, dial indicators, and bore gauges, to take accurate measurements and assess dimensional integrity of parts.


• Operate overhead cranes, torches, grinders, and forklifts when required.


• Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings and measurements.

Required Skills and Experience

• 3 years of hands‑on, shop oriented experience turbomachinery repair preferred.


• High mechanical aptitude and experience in detailed mechanic industries (turbines, compressors, rotating equipment)


• Willingness to work overtime when necessary.


• Must be able to use precision measuring instruments.
