Job summary

Sulzer is seeking a Machinery Mechanic to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on industrial equipment, ensuring safe, continuous operation on site in the United States. You will read job cards, troubleshoot, and disassemble/repair electro-mechanical assemblies under supervisor guidance.

You will also document work, lift heavy objects safely, and keep the workspace clean while supporting the maintenance team with precise testing and reassembly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various training and safety procedures under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read job cards to determine status, limitations, estimates and problems.
  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot problems using AC or DC methods.
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment, noting parts identifications and condition.
  • Clean electro-mechanical assemblies using parts washers, cleaners or caustic tanks as required.
  • Replace or repair worn mechanical or electro-mechanical parts (bearings, gears, seals, etc.).
  • Retest reassembled equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and promptly; observe safety procedures.
  • Lift, move and secure heavy objects; maintain a neat and safe work area.

Job Summary

The Machinery Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on industrial machinery to ensure smooth and safe operations. This role supports the maintenance team by identifying mechanical issues and assisting in equipment upkeep. This job profile is intended for support staff that follows established procedures and works under close supervision.

DUTIES
  • Read job cards to determine; job status, work authorization/limitations, estimate, description of problems and/or expected serviceability.
  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (ac or de).
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment noting parts identifications, configuration and condition.
  • Clean electro-mechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including but not limited to: parts washer/steamers, caustic tanks, glass beaders, etc.
  • Measure for or note proper replacement parts.
  • Correctly requisition needed items from storekeeper, as approved by supervisor.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies, including but not limited to: bearings, brushes, brush holders, motors leads gears seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes clutches, clutch rotors, tachs, fans, end shield,, etc.
  • Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment and other equipment as needed.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear (especially eye and car protection).
  • Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work duties.
  • Keep work area neat and clean as directed by supervisor.
  • Assisted other mechanics or other shop personnel in skilled or –non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor or shop manager.
  • Perform other skilled or not-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various skill related training and operational and safety procedures demonstrated by supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
