Job summary

Rayburn Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, and transmissions. You will document inspections, maintenance, and expenses while ensuring safety and reliability in a busy shop environment.

Candidates should have 3+ years’ experience in diesel/gas systems, strong diagnostic ability, and a valid Class A CDL. On-call work and safe operating practices are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational certs preferred.
  • 3+ years diesel/gas engine and heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • ASE certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain records of inspections, maintenance, work orders, and expenses.
  • Drive Rayburn vehicles to sites; may be on-call after hours.

Job description

General Summary

Ensures reliable operation of Rayburn Electric Cooperative, Inc.’s vehicle and mechanical equipment program, utilizing technical skill, precision, and a commitment to safety. Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on vehicles, machinery, and equipment to ensure optimal and reliable operation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities / Knowledge
  • Manages multiple priorities and works effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Develops and implements maintenance and repair strategies to ensure the reliability of Rayburn's vehicle and mechanical equipment program.
  • Oversees Rayburn’s vehicle and mechanical equipment program to ensure optimal performance and longevity, including:
  • Conducts thorough vehicle, machinery and equipment inspections to identify damage, routine maintenance needs, or repair requirements.
  • Maintains accurate records of all vehicles and equipment, including inspection reports maintenance, repair activities, work orders, and expenses.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained.
  • Utilizes diagnostic tools and equipment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve routine and complex mechanical problems associated with diesel and gas engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other components in heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and trucks.
  • Works independently and collaborates with team members to prioritize tasks and ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Adheres to Rayburn’s safety culture by conducting Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) before scopes of work commence, proactively identifying and addressing safety concerns, and providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Understands and complies with established standards, procedures, and specifications, including manufacturer’s guidance and technical references when performing repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Drives Rayburn vehicle to sites that may involve exposure to live electrical hazards and inclement weather conditions.
  • Subject to on call after normal business hours as business needs dictate.
Key Accountabilities
  • Complies with all policies, procedures and confidentiality agreements effective as a result of employment with Rayburn.
  • Shares information with Rayburn management and staff, contractors, and other third parties in a timely manner, as required.
  • Delegates jobs and tasks to appropriate employees, providing complete information and resources to properly complete such jobs and tasks.
  • Provides Rayburn management with updates and/or reports on work and tasks as requested or required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or executive management.
Education

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) required. Certification from a recognized vocational school or trade school required. ASE certifications are preferred.

Experience

3+ years with demonstrated knowledge of diesel and gas engine systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, heavy equipment maintenance and repair, and welding experience.

Physical Demands
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and working in various positions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions in order to use a computer keyboard, test equipment and operate hand tools.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. loading and unloading a vehicle and bend or stand as necessary.
  • Spends a majority of time in a shop environment and may work in extreme temperatures or weather conditions
