Job summary

Universal Waste Systems in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Mechanic to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment, ensuring optimal operations and minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience servicing diesel engines is required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred, certifications a plus.
• Experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment is valued.
• Must supply own tools for daily work.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair powertrain, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems.
• Assist in preventative maintenance: oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and related tasks.
• Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabrication orders.
• Utilize vehicle computer diagnostics to interpret failures and initiate repairs.
• Maintain fleet management records and prepare reports as requested.
• Follow safety, hazardous materials handling, and environmental regulations.

Job description

The primary role of the Mechanic is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of operations and minimize equipment down time.

• Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles andequipment.
• Assist in execution of preventative maintenance program by performing oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, CHP BIT inspections,etc.
• Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabricationorders.
• Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiaterepairs.
• Utilize fleet management software to perform data entry, maintain accurate records and prepare various reports upon request, paying close attention to accuracy anddetail.
• Utilizeservicemanualsaswellasonlinetechnicalresources,serviceliteratureanddiagnosticsoftware.
• Observeandcomplywithhazardouswasteandmaterialhandlinganddisposalproceduresandregulationsas setforthbylocal,stateandfederalenvironmentalandhealthagencies.
• Observeandcomplywithallapplicablesafetyregulations,rules,policiesandprocedures.
• Maintain clean, safe and organized workspace.
• Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicatetimeline for downedvehicles.
• Mentor and provide assistance to MechanicTrainees.
• Participate in external, Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components andparts.
• Methods,tools,equipmentandsystemsusedintheinspection,diagnosisandrepairoftrucksandheavy equipment.
• Vehicle computer diagnostic systems and fleet managementsoftware.
• Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices.

Education, Training & Experience

• One year of related experience servicing diesel enginesrequired.

• Experience in the resource recovery industry aplus.
