Liberty Propane, Inc. is seeking a skilled heavy-duty diesel truck mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain our fleet. You will split time between a repair shop and field work, performing engine, electrical, hydraulic, and brake repairs with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities include diagnostics, preventative maintenance, roadside support, and thorough documentation. A valid toolset for core duties is required, with opportunities for overtime during high-demand periods.

Job description

When a truck is down, operations slow, customers wait, and costs climb. In this role, you keep critical equipment moving, diagnosing issues quickly, making reliable repairs, and getting drivers safely back on the road. Your work directly impacts uptime, safety, and the company’s ability to deliver on its commitments every day.

What You’ll Actually Do in Your First 30 Days

• Learn the fleet, common failure points, and shop processes while shadowing experienced mechanics on diagnostics and repairs
• Complete preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and document work accurately in the system
• Begin handling straightforward repairs independently (e.g., brakes, electrical issues, inspections)
• Join at least one roadside service call to understand expectations for response time, safety, and communication

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment (engine, transmission, electrical, brake, and hydraulic systems)
• Use diagnostic tools to identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently
• Perform preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle life
• Respond to roadside service calls, including emergency repairs in real-world conditions
• Inspect vehicles for safety and regulatory compliance
• Accurately document repairs, inspections, and parts used
• Follow safety protocols, including PPE and proper handling of equipment and materials
• Communicate clearly with the team about repair status, delays, or additional issues
• Maintain and manage your personal toolset required for the role
• Participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime when needed to support operations

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

• You can independently diagnose and repair most common mechanical and electrical issues across the fleet
• Preventative maintenance tasks are completed on schedule with minimal rework
• Roadside calls are handled safely and efficiently, with clear communication back to the team
• Documentation is accurate and up to date, enabling smooth tracking of repairs and compliance

Must Have

• Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems independently
• Strong understanding of safety practices in a shop and roadside environment
• Ability to perform physically demanding work (lifting, bending, working in confined spaces)
• Personal set of tools required to perform core mechanic duties

Nice to Have

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• ASE certification
• Experience performing roadside or field repairs

You’ll split your time between a repair shop and field work. Some days you’ll be working on engines in the shop; others, you may be repairing a truck roadside in varying weather or traffic conditions. The role includes exposure to noise, fumes, moving equipment, and hands‑on physical work, with safety protocols in place to protect you.

How the Team Works

This is a hands‑on, team‑oriented shop where mechanics communicate frequently to solve problems and keep jobs moving. Work is scheduled, but priorities shift when breakdowns happen—so the team rallies to respond quickly and support each other during high‑demand periods like roadside calls or urgent repairs.

Pay: $30-35 per hour (based on experience)
