Met Opera in New York City is seeking a trained Mechanic to operate, maintain, and adjust HVAC and plumbing systems across its facilities. Under supervision, you’ll ensure continuous 24/7 operation and support life-safety systems and related building operations.
You will work with the Chief/Assistant Engineers and fellow trades, inspect equipment, perform preventive maintenance, read blueprints, and log readings. The role requires physical capability and FDNY credential readiness.
Under supervision, a Mechanic operates, maintains, and adjusts HVAC and plumbing equipment; and performs related work.
As a Mechanic you will ensure efficient and twenty-four hour operation of all equipment and utilities for the Met’s Facilities operation. You will work with the Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, Engineers, and other Mechanics as part of the team by repairing the life safety systems and other related building operations, including elevators. A Mechanic maintains and monitors all hot water, steam, utilities, pumps, compressors, air handlers, fire and life safety systems in order to provide a safe environment.
Required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evening and or overnight shifts as scheduled. May be required to work legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts. The Mechanic is an essential position and must be available for all emergencies in all weather conditions, as well as during disaster situations, ie. before, during or after a disaster. The Mechanic may be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
