Job summary

The Detroit Institute of Arts in Detroit is seeking a Building Mechanic to support Building Operations. Under supervision, you will maintain and operate HVAC and related equipment, and perform minor repairs to electrical, plumbing and controls to ensure reliable building services.

This full-time, non-exempt position requires a high school diploma or GED, a third-class refrigeration operator’s license (or ability to obtain one within a year), and hands-on experience with large facilities and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain third-class refrigeration license within one year.
• Experience with large facilities HVAC, electrical, plumbing and controls.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and troubleshoot systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain HVAC installations that do not require an operator’s license.
• Inspect and repair pumps, steam lines, valves, and water systems.
• Repair and maintain HVAC systems.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Handle electrical systems including lighting, switches, wiring, and motors.
• Perform building repairs like glass, locks, doors, and hardware.
• Troubleshoot electrical problems throughout the building.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
