Job summary

Met Opera in New York City is seeking a trained Mechanic to operate, maintain, and adjust HVAC and plumbing systems across its facilities. Under supervision, you’ll ensure continuous 24/7 operation and support life-safety systems and related building operations.

You will work with the Chief/Assistant Engineers and fellow trades, inspect equipment, perform preventive maintenance, read blueprints, and log readings. The role requires physical capability and FDNY credential readiness.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of four years of general maintenance experience in plumbing including HVAC systems and electrical systems.
• Experience with shop tools and reading blueprints.
• Ability to interpret plumbing, electrical, and mechanical blueprints.
• Must hold or be able to obtain FDNY Certificates of Fitness: F-01, F-03, S-12, S-13.
• Must hold or be capable of obtaining Q-01 Refrigerating System Operating Engineer.
• Must hold or be capable of obtaining Local 30 membership.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and adjusts systems and related equipment.
• Makes periodic inspections and repairs of equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• May operate control consoles in Engineers office.
• Reads and logs meters, gauges and other devices.
• Keeps records and makes reports.
• Conducts routine building rounds.
• Works with other trades to ensure proper functionality of all equipment.
