Job summary

The City of Mitchell Street and Sanitation Department seeks a skilled mechanic to repair and maintain city vehicles and equipment, including diesel and automotive systems. You will work as part of a dedicated team, perform engine and hydraulic repairs, and conduct routine maintenance.

A valid CDL-B is required or can be obtained, with a supportive benefits package and retirement plan. Starting wage is $26.322 per hour, with opportunities to contribute to a broad range of municipal vehicles and

Qualifications

• Specialized training or technical degree in mechanics.
• One to two years of experience.
• Must have or be able to readily obtain a valid Class B CDL.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain mechanical, diesel, and automotive equipment.
• Repair engines, hydraulics, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, drivelines, body-frames.
• Perform basic service work: oil changes, battery checks, tire inspections, lubrication checks.
• Operate diagnostic and testing equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized repair shop and manage inventory and supplies.

Job description

This position is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment, and joins a team of mechanics based out of the City of Mitchell Street and Sanitation Department. Repairs and maintains mechanical, diesel, and automotive equipment. Repairs engines, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical components, brakes, steering, suspension, drivelines, body-frames, etc. Performs basic service work on equipment; performs oil changes, battery checks, tire inspections, and lube checks. Operates diagnostic and testing equipment. Maintains a clean and tidy repair shop and maintains inventory of parts and supplies. Operates a variety of shop equipment, machinery, precision instruments, and specialized tools. Performs related duties as assigned.

$26.322 per hour starting wage.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training or technical degree in mechanics, along with one to two years experience. Must have or be able to readily obtain a valid Class B CDL.
