Job summary

Comfort Systems USA is seeking a Mechanic to support mechanical service and retrofit work across active job sites in Georgia. You will perform sheet metal modifications and piping tasks, including gasket replacement, valve work, flanged connections, and precise torquing, while adhering to LOTO and safety requirements.

The role requires reading drawings and work orders, following torque specs, and maintaining safe, clean work areas on rooftops and mechanical rooms.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to read and follow job documentation, drawings, specs, and work orders.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and hazard awareness on job sites.
  • Ability to travel to construction sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment and ducting interfaces.
  • Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify fit-up and sealing surfaces.
  • Complete chiller valve replacements and related isolation, reassembly and checks per requirements.
  • Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using documented torque requirements.
  • Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) according to procedure and verify zero-energy state.
  • Read job documentation to complete tasks correctly the first time; communicate progress and issues to supervisor.

This role works safely, follows job specifications and torque requirements, and produces high-quality work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites.

Position Summary

The Mechanic supports mechanical service and retrofit work by performing sheet metal modifications/installation and mechanical piping tasks including gasket replacement, valve replacements, flanged coupling installation and torquing, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) execution. This role works safely, follows job specifications and torque requirements, and produces high-quality work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
  • Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
  • Complete chiller valve replacements (isolation support, removal/replacement, reassembly, and operational checks per job requirements).
  • Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using appropriate tools and documented torque requirements.
  • Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, and verify zero-energy state per procedure.
  • Read and work from job documentation (drawings, specs, work orders) to complete tasks correctly the first time.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow all safety policies and jobsite rules.
  • Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to the supervisor/foreman; document completed work as required.
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment properly, including torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.
  • Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within your skillset; elevate issues when needed.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections
  • Proper tool use including torque tools
  • Jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
  • Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.
  • Compliance with company dress code and appearance standards.
  • Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and over long distances (30+ feet).
  • Comfortable working at heights over 30 feet and climbing ladders or stairs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces; perform repetitive motions as needed.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and environments.
