Job summary

Comfort Systems USA is seeking a Mechanic to support mechanical service and retrofit work, including sheet metal modifications, piping tasks, gasket and flange work, and torqueing, with strict LOTO execution. The role spans mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites.

Responsibilities include valve replacements, flanged couplings, reading drawings, and maintaining safety. Willingness to travel to construction sites is required; read specs and work orders to complete tasks accurately first

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC, plumbing, or industrial maintenance.
• Knowledge of flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections.
• Familiar with torque tools and jobsite safety practices.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in active environments.
• Willingness to travel to construction sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements (isolation support, removal/replacement, reassembly, and operational checks per job requirements).
• Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using appropriate tools and documented torque requirements.
• Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, and verify zero-energy state per procedure.
• Read and work from job documentation (drawings, specs, work orders) to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow all safety policies and jobsite rules.
• Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to the supervisor/foreman; document completed work as required.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment properly, including torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.
• Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within your skillset; elevate issues when needed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance
• Working knowledge of:
• Flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections
• Proper tool use including torque tools
• Jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
• Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.
• Compliance with company dress code and appearance standards.
• Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and over long distances (30+ feet).
• Comfortable working at heights over 30 feet and climbing ladders or stairs.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces; perform repetitive motions as needed.
• Work in varying weather conditions and environments.
