Job summary

Comfort Systems USA is seeking a Mechanic to support mechanical service and retrofit work, including sheet metal modifications, piping tasks, valve replacements, and flanged connections. You will perform torqueing, LOTO, and operate standard mechanical tools on active job sites and rooftops.

The role requires travel to construction sites, adherence to safety procedures, and accurate documentation of work sequences while maintaining equipment and work areas in a clean state.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modifications/installation for mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges and verify fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements (isolation, removal/replacement, reassembly, checks).
• Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification with proper tools and documented torque requirements.
• Execute LOTO: identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, verify zero-energy state.
• Read and work from job documentation to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow safety policies and site rules.
• Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to supervisor; document completed work.
• Use and maintain torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within your skillset; elevate issues when needed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance
• Working knowledge of:
• Flanges, gaskets, valves, and mechanical connections
• Proper tool use including torque tools
• Jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
• Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.
• Compliance with company dress code and appearance standards.
• Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and over long distances (30+ feet).
• Comfortable working at heights over 30 feet and climbing ladders or stairs.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces; perform repetitive motions as needed.
