LAUKOA is seeking a General Maintenance Technician/Diesel Mechanic on Kaho'olawe, HI. This role covers routine to heavy repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles, light equipment, RO desalination systems, solar power infrastructure, and facility systems.

Job description

Salary Range: $35.00-$45.00 Per Hour

Title: General Maintenance Technician/Diesel Mechanic

Location: Kaho'olawe, HI

Position Summary

This position is responsible for routine, preventive, & special maintenance or repairs to vehicles, facilities, and equipment as well as other tasks as requested. This Position runs off a special schedule, whereby the employee will be required to work up to 10 calendar days in a row per Month to satisfy project obligations. Example: from Wednesday of one week to Friday of the next week.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Performs maintenance & repair to a wide range of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, light trucks, former military vehicles, and heavy equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance & repairs to light engine equipment such as string trimmers, chainsaws, portable augers, generators, and chippers.
• Operate, maintain and repair the Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination system and associated pumps and plumbing. Monitor quality of potable water and provide treatment as required.
• Operate, maintain, and repair the solar power generation system to include solar infrastructure, control units, and backup generators.
• Operate, maintain and repair fuel storage and distribution systems including monitoring fuel quality.
• Maintain and repair water vessels to include inflatable boats with outboard motors and jet skis. Assist with maintenance and repair of the State vessel `Ohua. Operate the camp-assigned inflatable boat to support operations as required.
• Performs routine maintenance & repairs in facilities including structural, electrical, plumbing & mechanical systems in accordance with facility standards.
• Performs all Environmental & Safety tasks in accordance w/ appropriate Occupational, Safety, & Health & Environmental Regulations.
• Operates facilities in accordance w/ Local, State, & Federal EHS Regulations as well as best management practices & procedures.
• Monitors the appearance & upkeep of all facilities and grounds, noting areas that need attention & takes appropriate action to correct.
• Assembles & installs equipment, accessories, art, & furniture for facility renovation or construction projects.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma/GED or an equivalent number of years of education and maintenance experience
• Prior experience in vehicle repairs to include gasoline engine, diesel engine, drivetrain, suspension, electrical, and hydraulics.
• Ability to work independently & in a professional manner is required.
• Valid driver's license & driving record acceptable to the employer & employee's insurance company are required.
• Able to pass pre-employment physical
