Job summary

Commercial Metals Company is hiring a skilled maintenance mechanic to perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers, and to service a range of heavy equipment at our facilities. You will work with hydraulics, pneumatics, engines, and welding processes, ensuring reliability and safety across our fleet and machinery.

We value hands-on technicians who can read technical manuals, document repairs, and uphold our safety culture in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years heavy equipment maintenance experience.
• Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, engines, and mobile equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and service manuals.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers.
• Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, and welding principles/rigging.
• Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment, including fueling and fluid checks.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns, perform repairs on engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Maintain records of work performed, repairs, and materials used.

What You’ll Do

• Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers
• Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, fluid pumping systems and welding principles/rigging
• Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed
• Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
• Services machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile and stationary equipment
• Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair and replacing parts and components
• Maintains specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage
• Possess proficient skills utilizing hand tools, power tools and precision tools for performing all facets of the repair and maintenance process
• Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
• Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations
• Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor

What You’ll Need

• Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment maintenance mechanic experience
• Experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles (number of years up to location preference)
• Experience with a wide variety of tools related to mechanics/hydraulics
• Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, wiring, and working on heavy equipment
• Welding, cutting and fabrication preferred
• Proficient in reading and understand technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Possess specific fundamental knowledge of bearings, power transmission equipment, electrical, hydraulics/pneumatics, lubrication, fluid pumping systems, and heat transfer
• Must be able to stand for significant lengths of time in an industrial environment with exposure to all elements of weather

Your Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
