Job summary

SA Recycling seeks an experienced Diesel Mechanic to service and repair heavy equipment at our Birmingham, AL facility. You will drive the company mechanic truck to collect parts, assist off-site trucks, and diagnose issues with engines, cooling systems, drivelines, brakes, and electrical components.

You will replace hydraulic parts and attachments, service body components, perform light welding, and keep the yard orderly and safe. A HS diploma or GED is preferred; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• HS diploma or GED preferred; foreign education acceptable.
• Bi-lingual English & Spanish is a plus.
• Diesel mechanic training or certification preferred.
• Experience with hydraulic repairs is a plus.
• Forklift experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Drive company mechanic truck to pick up parts and assist off-site trucks.
• Troubleshoot machinery problems and repair engines, cooling systems, drivetrains, brakes, and electrical parts.
• Remove and replace hydraulic components and tool attachments (shears, forks, grapples).
• Replace body parts, ladders, platforms, catwalks, and engine covers as needed.
• Perform limited torch cutting and welding; maintain a clean, safe work area.

• Repair engines, engine-cooling systems, drivetrain parts, brake systems, and basic electrical parts
• Remove and replace parts of hydraulic systems and tool attachments (shears, forks, grapples)
• Remove and repair some body parts, ladders, platforms, catwalks, and engine covers
• Perform limited torch cutting and welding
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organizing materials to have more effective use of space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed
• Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members.

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred – high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus
• Ability to: communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands
• Diesel Mechanic school or certification preferred
• Previous experience hydraulic repairs a plus
• Forklift experience a plus
