Job summary

Southway is looking to add an experienced full-time Crane/Truck mechanic to our growing Branch. You must meet all requirements below to be considered for this position.

Job Overview

Southway Crane and Rigging Inc. is currently seeking a full-time experienced Crane/Truck Technician Mechanic to help build our branch location. The mechanic will perform maintenance and repairs on cranes, forklifts, and other equipment, ensuring compliance with State and Federal laws and safety/environmental policies.

Responsibilities
  • Supply your own tools with up-to-date inventory (shop provides specialty tools).
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on cranes, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Document all maintenance and repairs performed, filing records properly.
  • Maintain strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Pass drug screen and background check.
  • Understand electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits (plus).
  • Work some evenings and weekends at the shop.
  • Verbally communicate safety issues to customers and co-workers on location.
  • Report to Supervisor and/or Lead Mechanic on completion of assigned job tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Trade school diploma preferred.
  • 3‑7 years of performing maintenance and repairs on hydraulic cranes.
  • At least 3 years as a mobile crane mechanic/technician, able to inspect cranes and diagnose defects.
  • Working knowledge of CANBUS, PAT, ECOS, LICCON systems.
  • Ability to read and understand operating, parts manuals, and technical drawings.
  • Test mechanical, electrical, hydraulic products and equipment after repair to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications.
  • Accomplish tasks independently without direct supervision.
  • Observe and maintain all equipment according to safety requirements.
  • Properly maintain all reports (timesheets, work orders, expense reports, etc.).
  • Work overtime and weekends.
  • Possess valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Have a TWIC card or be able to readily acquire a TWIC card.
Skills Required
  • Ability to interpret, read, and write reports in English.
  • Mechanical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret, read, and troubleshoot using schematic.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate crane by viewing hand signals.
