The role requires 5+ years of industrial design/drafting, strong AutoCAD skills, and familiarity with ANSI/ASME standards and GD&T. Confidence in field walkdowns and safety PPE is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design and modify engineering drawings for utility piping and process piping systems to support safe deactivation and future demolition.
  • Provide drafting support to multiple disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical) up to 50% of workload.
  • Perform field geolocating using Trimble Total Station and write excavation permits for utilities prior to work.
  • Manage and maintain the plant drawing database with version control in coordination with Records.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to verify as-built/current-state decommissioning conditions.
  • Ensure drawings meet fabrication, safety, and quality requirements per ANSI/ASME standards and GD&T.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Mechanical/Civil Designer / Drafter (Mid to Senior Level) to support the deactivation, remediation, and decommissioning (D&D) of a former gaseous diffusion uranium enrichment facility in Kevil, KY.

All design and drafting work in this role directly supports critical facility modifications necessary for safe deactivation and future demolition.

This includes modifications to both utility piping and process piping systems.

This position requires a unique blend of technical drafting expertise and administrative organizational skills. The successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time supporting multi-discipline design modifications, and will also be responsible for managing the site's plant drawing database in close coordination with the on-site Records department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • - Design for Facility Modification: Develop and modify engineering drawings for utility piping and process piping systems to support safe facility deactivation and prepare structures for future demolition.
  • - Multi-Discipline Support (Up to 50% Workload): Provide substantial drafting and design support to other engineering disciplines. Up to half of your expected workload will involve updating, modifying, and drafting civil, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • - Perform field geolocating using Trimble Total Station and write excavation permits that identify utilities prior to construction or maintenance work
  • - Drawing Database Management: Manage and maintain the active database of plant drawings, ensuring accuracy, proper version control, and seamless coordination/archiving in conjunction with the on-site Records department.
  • - Field Walkdowns: Perform frequent hands-on field walkdowns and utility routing verifications within the facility to ensure drawings accurately reflect as-built or current-state decommissioning conditions.
  • - Standards Compliance: Apply ANSI/ASME standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure drawings meet fabrication, safety, and quality requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • - Experience: Mid-level to Senior-level (typically 5+ years of design and drafting experience in an industrial setting).
  • - Technical Skills: High proficiency in AutoCAD is required
  • - Database & Records Management: Demonstrated experience or high aptitude for managing drawing databases, document control systems, or technical records in a structured environment.
  • - Standards Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of ANSI/ASME standards related to mechanical/civil/ structural design, layout, and fabrication.
  • - GD&T: Practical familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • - Physical & Field Capabilities: Ability and willingness to perform frequent field walkdowns in an industrial nuclear facility environment, which may include navigating stairs, ladders, and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • - Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • - Experience with 3D plant layout software (e.g., CADWorx, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA, or similar).
  • - Familiarity with ESRI ARcGIS software suite is strongly desired
  • - Familiarity with performing field geolocating using a Trimble Total Station
  • - Prior experience working on Department of Energy (DOE) sites, nuclear facilities, or heavy industrial decommissioning/demolition (D&D) projects.
  • - Previous training in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) or Radiological Worker (Rad Worker) protocols (on-site training will be provided if needed).
